“100% a Joke”: Fans Are Trolling Steam Awards 2023 Results as “Award Bombing”

Steam Awards 2023 has just been announced but the gaming community is not very happy about it. To begin with, fans have stamped the winner’s list as “Fantastic Troll”! Well, people can have their differences of opinion. However, before we jump into the hot-headed conversation of gamers, let’s have a quick look at those games that have bagged ‘The Steam Awards 2023″.

  • Game of the Year Award: Baldur’s Gate 3
  • VR Game of the Year Award: Labyrinthine
  • Labor of Love Award: Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Best Game on Steam Deck Award: Hogwarts Legacy
  • Better With Friends Award: Lethal Company
  • Outstanding Visual Style Award: Atomic Heart
  • Most Innovative Gameplay Award: Starfield
  • Best Game You Suck At Award: Sifu
  • Best Soundtrack Award: The Last of Us Part 1
  • Outstanding Story-Rich Game Award: Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Sit Back and Relax Award: Dave The Diver

So, these are the games that have been the winner of Steam Awards 2023. Also, a huge shout out to Baldur’s Gate 3 for bagging two awards including ‘Game of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Story-Rich Game’!

Now, coming back to the point, the gaming community has disapproved of this winners’ list and invented a term called ‘Award Bombing’. Let’s see what they are saying –

Fans are on Fire calling the Steam Awards 2023 a “Crime”

According to a user, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a cRPG, where you follow a set story, unlike an “immersive sandbox” game where you can explore freely. And in Starfield, the problem isn’t the game’s genre but rather that the loading screens negatively impact the gameplay experience. Clearly, the person is not really agreeing on BG3 getting the ‘Game of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Story-Rich Game’ and Starfield’s title of ‘Most Innovative Gameplay’.

Another fan seems to agree with the loading screen issue of Baldur’s Gate 3.

A gamer has commented “Starfield could have come out 15 years ago. There is absolutely nothing innovative or inspired in it. Unless having chatGPT do all the writing counts as innovation.” Coming to Hogwarts Legacy, the ‘Best Game on Steam Deck’ award has failed to impress fans.

“Last of Us part 1 for best soundtrack in 2023 with the rest of those nominees feels like a troll.” – Yes, that’s what the gaming community has agreed upon. Another fan has demanded a recount of the Steam Awards 2023 winners’ list and asked to consider Destiny 2 Lightfall instead of RDR2 for the ‘Labor of Love Award’.

Well, this person is not alone. Many people have disapproved of Red Dead Redemption II winning the ‘Labor of Love Award’: “Starfield and RDR2…now that’s funny”. Another user has called it ‘Award Bombing’ as we can see here –
