PlayStation Stars Ends in July 2025: What You Can Still Do

Sony has announced the upcoming closure of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program on July 23 at 7:59 AM PT (10:59 AM ET / 3:59 PM BST). There were signs of strain in recent months. Last year, the service went offline temporarily. Then came changes that made it harder to earn points, like halving the expiry time and removing PlayStation Plus purchases from the list of eligible transactions.

If you are already part of it, or had considered joining, this change likely raises questions.

If you are not already enrolled in PlayStation Stars, you won’t be able to join now. New registrations have stopped completely. For current members, there’s no way to re-enroll once you opt out. This decision affects all PlayStation users globally.

As Grace Chen, Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty, and Licensed Merchandise at PlayStation, has stated in the PlayStation blog.

“Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends,”

Let’s walk through what this means and how it affects you.

Last Date to Earn Collectibles

Until July 23 at 7:59 AM PT (10:59 AM ET / 3:59 PM BST), you can still complete activities and earn digital collectibles in PlayStation Stars. After that, no more campaigns or reward activities will be available. The progression of your status will also come to a halt.

You Can Still Redeem Points

Your collected points aren’t disappearing overnight. Sony is keeping redemption open until November 2, 2026. If you have saved up points, you still have time to decide how to use them. Rewards remain accessible, but after the shutdown date, nothing new will be added to the catalog.

Digital Collectibles Remain Available

Even after the PlayStation Stars program ends, your previously earned digital collectibles will stay in your account. You won’t lose access to what you have already earned, even though new items won’t be issued.

Why Sony Is Ending PlayStation Stars

Sony hasn’t explained the exact reasons behind this decision. However, they have stated that they are reviewing what worked and what didn’t. The company has chosen to shut down this “version” of the program. That wording suggests they might revisit loyalty initiatives in a different form later.

No Replacement Announced

As of now, there is no new loyalty program taking the place of PlayStation Stars. Sony hasn’t shared what will come next. If you have enjoyed earning perks through this system, the uncertainty might feel disappointing.

What You Should Do Now

Check your PlayStation Stars dashboard. If you have unredeemed points, consider planning how to use them before November 2026. Don’t wait too long, especially since nothing new will be added after July.

You won’t be able to climb levels or claim new collectibles after that date. What you have already earned stays put, but any future gains stop with the program’s shutdown.

Sony’s Next Steps Are Unclear

Sony has thanked its users and mentioned that they are reviewing player preferences. However, you aren’t being given a clear path forward. For now, the focus is on wrapping up the existing program in a controlled way.

If you are someone who values engagement rewards, you may want to keep an eye on Sony’s updates. This could signal changes in how they plan to reward long-term players in the future, though no timeline has been given.
